Looking Back, Paying it Forward

The James R. and Barbara Mulcahy Family Endowed Fund

Bethlehem Academy, a Dominican middle and high school in Faribault, Minnesota holds a special place in Barbara Mulcahy’s life and heart.

Barbara and her husband, James “Ron” Mulcahy, met at Bethlehem Academy. They were Homecoming King and Queen in 1948 — and married in 1955. Ron started a dental practice in Faribault. They were able to send all of their 12 children to Bethlehem Academy and made the Divine Mercy parish their spiritual home.

After Barbara tragically lost her husband and two youngest sons at early ages from cancer, she worked with the Catholic Community Foundation to establish a Charitable Remainder Unitrust, which ultimately will establish The James R. and Barbara Mulcahy Family Endowed Fund.

Fostering Catholic Faith
“I wanted to do something to memorialize our family and help foster the Catholic faith here in Faribault,” says Barbara Mulcahy.

As a designated endowment, this fund will provide permanent financial support to Bethlehem Academy and Divine Mercy Catholic Church.

“I want to dedicate some of my fund to help kids who, with tuition help, could attend Bethlehem Academy. It’s so important that we have Catholic morals and I want them to be continued on. I’m glad to have this chance to perpetuate loving memories and help future generations know, love and serve God.”
