Leo C. Byrne Residence Renovation Campaign

Sharing our gratitude for those who have fostered our faith.

Constructed in 1995, the Leo C. Byrne Residence is located on South Mississippi River Boulevard near the University of Saint Thomas and adjacent to the Saint Paul Seminary and School of Divinity. It offers 29 individual apartments for priests who have reached retirement age, many of whom continue to actively serve parishes and organizations around the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis.

The GRATITUDE capital campaign will fund work required to bring the entire residence to a level of security and efficiency suitable for the safety and wellbeing of each priest resident.

Did you know?

The Residence is named in honor of Archbishop Leo C. Byrne who worked to care for the needs of priests. Archbishop Byrne’s care for retired priests was realized in a residence building dedicated for retired priests. Archbishop Byrne was born in 1908 on the Feast of St. Joseph. Fittingly, this renovation campaign begins during the “Year of St. Joseph”.

Project Summary

Many of the Byrne Residence systems have reached or exceeded average life expectancy. Along with deferred maintenance, this has resulted in further deterioration, accelerating the need for complete renovations.

Project Purpose

  • Preserve the building so it can function reliably and safely for years to come.

  • Create a more attractive living environment for prospective residents.

Renovations will fix deteriorating conditions and create an attractive, comfortable, safe environment for current and future residents:

  • Updated security, internet access, phone systems, and elevator
  • Repairs to the building exterior, windows, electrical, and lighting
  • Remodel and paint individual apartments and common rooms
  • Updated roofing and flooring
  • Landscaping
