CCF is thrilled to announce that Christopher D. Nelson has been selected as our new president. Chris will begin his new role January 1, 2026, succeeding Anne Cullen Miller as she retires after serving CCF for more than 17 years. Anne’s 13-year tenure as president marked a period of remarkable growth for CCF. She helped build a culture of values-based excellence, expand individual and institutional relationships, garner community trust, and build strong momentum for the CCF mission — momentum that Chris is well-suited to build on as he takes the helm.

CCF’s Board of Directors unanimously selected Chris to lead the Foundation following a broad search led by Ballinger Leafblad.

“The search committee laid out six key requirements for candidates,” says CCF Board Vice Chairperson Mike Felmlee. “Chris not only demonstrated that he fit the requirements, but he excelled in each one. In particular, the search committee noted his strengths in strategic planning, relationship-building, and leadership.”

Chris will also bring continuity to CCF, having already served its mission for more than seven years. He joined the Foundation in 2018 as Vice President of Donor Development & Engagement to lead the development and marketing team through strategic, continued growth with enhanced donor and partner services. In 2023, Chris was promoted to Executive Vice President and assumed leadership of the organizational strategic planning process. Anne said at the time, “Chris has demonstrated a wonderful ability to understand the charitable giving landscape we navigate today and think through how to focus resources on the efforts and initiatives that will generate the most impact and support for mission and ministry in our Catholic community.”

As Executive Vice President, Chris took on leadership of CCF’s organization wide strategic planning. In that role, he has helped chart a thoughtful and ambitious course for CCF’s future.

“Not only is Chris a gifted leader,” Anne says, “but he is also a person of faith who deeply understands the unique responsibilities that are required to ensure the Foundation is positioned to financially support the spiritual, educational, and social needs within our Catholic community for years to come.”

Prior to coming to CCF, Chris worked for 11 years at a law firm in southwest Minnesota, where he represented a wide variety of nonprofits, including Catholic dioceses and parishes. He also provided legal counsel to individuals and financial institutions regarding asset protection, corporate governance, charitable giving, and tax and general business planning. Chris earned his law degree from the University of St. Thomas, where he served as Editor in Chief of the UST Law Journal. Today Chris serves as chair of the Consortium of Catholic Foundations Donor Services Committee and is a Council on Foundations Career Pathways Fellow. Over his career, he has served on a number of nonprofit boards and committees, including the Catholic Foundation of Southern Minnesota, United Way, St. James Coffee, Holy Family Catholic High School, Holy Name of Jesus, and the Minnesota Council on Foundations Tax Committee.

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected to succeed such a strong and visionary leader in Anne Cullen Miller, and I am grateful for her mentorship over the past seven years,” Chris says. “The CCF mission is one I have come to treasure and love. I am humbled to serve as President, carrying forward what has been faithfully built, and ensuring this foundation remains a trusted pillar of generosity and hope for our Catholic community for generations to come.”

“Anne has done an incredible job transforming CCF into a self-sustaining organization and developing a staff and board of experienced professionals,” says CCF Vice Chairperson Mike. “And Chris brings the right set of skills at the right time to carry the momentum Anne set into place to help CCF continue expanding its impact in our community.”
