(December 1, 2010, St. Paul, MN) – The Catholic Community Foundation announces the election of four new members to its Board of Directors, effective November 22, 2010. John C. Beuerlein, Reverend John H. Brunner, Thomas A. Letscher, and Robert J. Strachota each will serve a three-year term, ending in 2013. Mary E. Schaffner was named board secretary. The Foundation’s 32-member board provides strategic direction to the Foundation, which was established in 1992 as a separate legal entity from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Its mission is to support the spiritual, educational and social needs of the Catholic community.
John C. Beuerlein is chairman and chief investment officer of Marquette Asset Management, and also serves as chief economist of Marquette Financial Companies, Inc. and the overall Pohlad organization. Beuerlein is a board member of the Jeremiah Program, and a member of the finance committee of St. Patrick’s Church in Edina, where he and his wife Cynthia are parishioners.
Reverend John H. Brunner is the associate pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins, Minnesota, in the Diocese of New Ulm. He was ordained in February 1962 after graduating from Crosier Seminary in Onamia, Minnesota and St. Pocopius Seminary of Lyle, Illinois. He is involved in the Priests’ Council and several diocesan committees.
Thomas A. Letscher is a partner and chair at Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly LLP. An experienced transactional lawyer focused on medical technology companies, Letscher also has significant experience in venture capital financing, public and private securities offerings and acquisition/disposition transactions. He earned his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California - Berkeley, and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He and his wife Sheila are parishioners at Our Lady of Grace in Edina.
Robert J. Strachota is president and shareholder of Shenehon Company in Minneapolis. He is a certified and licensed appraiser in several states including Minnesota, and teaches at the University of Minnesota Extension and the University of St. Thomas. Bob earned his MBA from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Finance from the University of St. Thomas. He and his wife Anne are parishioners at Our Lady of Grace in Edina.
Mary E. Schaffner is Senior Company Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Wells Fargo in Minneapolis. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Notre Dame Law School, Schaffner has spent her 29-year law career specializing in securities, finance and corporate law, and served as primary counsel for the Wells Fargo Foundation. She serves as lay trustee and treasurer for the Cathedral of St. Paul, where she and her husband, Robert L. Lee, are members. Schaffner also is active with the Cathedral Heritage Foundation, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Alliance Françoise de Minneapolis – St. Paul.
